I work on the out of London development team projects. These include the Paradise Project in Liverpool, and my last project was working on the Festival Place project in Basingstoke.
The Liverpool project is the largest city centre redevelopment in Europe, and by far the largest on site in the UK at the moment. It includes everything ranging from a BBC film studio to gyms, 30 bars and restaurants, 130 shops, a 14-screen cinema, 3,000 car parking spaces…I could go on, but we would be here all day. It’s a billion pound project.
The most interesting project I have worked on since joining Grosvenor has been the Paradise Project will be called Liverpool One when it is finished in 2008. The project is amazing because it is really going to move Liverpool back up to the top five retail destinations in the UK from its current position of around 17th. The bars and restaurants we are building will boost the nightlife in the city, and the 700 flats we are building will make the city a destination.
For me, the most enjoyable thing about my job is meeting amazing people. I have met everybody from Joanna Lumley to palm readers. I have also met industry leaders in the property sector, and people in the property industry in India. Overall, I have had an incredible time meeting interesting people.
My average working day is flat out from start to finish, and invariably involves property. We started off yesterday with a negotiation on the fee for an agent on the £28m sale of a building. Then we met the lawyers and talked through all the outstanding points in Liverpool. And I ended the day meeting a college friend for dinner and talking about everything from property to rugby.
The social scene is incredible. Mainly with our consultants and the younger members of staff here at Grosvenor, we usually end up going out once or twice a week in the evenings and also at weekends. I have been taken to see Madonna and I have been taken to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. We build up our relationships with our consultant team by going out and having a good time.
