Right now I am responsible for setting strategy for the London Office Portfolio. What properties should we buy? Which ones should we sell? Are there any properties that might benefit from redevelopment? If so, how much should we invest? These are the kinds of questions I grapple with every day. It’s all about adding value to the portfolio and working to differentiate it within a highly competitive market. It also involves staying very close to customers and using my initiative to strike a balance between their changing needs and our wider strategic objectives.
I work closely with my own team and regularly meet up with directors from other parts of the business. Grosvenor has an open and collaborative culture that encourages people to share ideas and information. You realise as soon as you join the company that your voice matters and your opinions count. You are encouraged to look at things from different perspectives and to take on challenges that stretch you. I’ve found that to be true at every stage of my own development.
CHALLENGES
The biggest challenge facing me is the need to complete the strategy for my sector. Once that is done, I will be responsible for motivating my team to deliver the strategy and meet the key performance indicators we’ve defined. Fortunately, these objectives can’t be achieved from behind a desk. I still enjoy lots of customer contact and get actively involved in key negotiations, valuations and property management issues. If you are looking for a career that gives you the widest possible exposure to the property industry, this is definitely the place to be.
