Metz

Metz is the administrative capital of Lorraine, with a population of 20,000, half that of Nancy. Metz has sought to develop information and communication technologies (ICT) and is now known for its "Technopole Metz 2000", the equivalent of a small Silicon Valley. Home to 6 of the Grandes Ecoles of France and with 3 university campuses, Metz has a strong skilled labour base and a strong presence in the fields of applied and pure research, as well as being known for expertise in optics and electronics. The retail sector is strong, with 2,000 shops in the city centre, including most of the major brands, and a high density of businesses selling capital goods.
