I first got to know Grosvenor as an international private property company in 2009 during a career presentation in Cambridge and I was fascinated by its rich company history, famous London estate and its team of high-calibre property professionals.
One year later, having completed my first degree in Land Economy in Queens College Cambridge, I decided to stay on and pursue a Master degree in Real Estate Finance to prepare myself for a successful career in property. After attending an interview, during which I discussed my objectives for further study and my career ambition, I was thrilled to learn I had become one of three students to receive the Grosvenor Cambridge Scholarship, which Grosvenor was supporting at the time.
Grosvenor was extremely supportive during my one-year postgraduate study. In addition to providing financial assistance, Grosvenor organised a number of scholar's events, including lunch with senior members of the company and a Grosvenor office visit. As I got to know more about the company, I became increasingly interested and attracted to its family-friendly culture, honourable business values, and its diligent approach to managing and creating thriving spaces.
With my passion to work for a company which values trust and commits to its employees and business principles, I applied to the Grosvenor Summer Internship Scheme, hoping to gain valuable work experience and establish a long-term career with Grosvenor.
My experience on the Grosvenor summer internship programme was extremely rewarding. I was offered opportunities to visit the London estate and a number of other Grosvenor developments, including Liverpool ONE and NEO Bankside and was also invited to a number of lunchtime presentations and workshops to learn more about the company and its business. Outside these organised activities, I joined the Grosvenor Fund Management team and was given the opportunity to work on projects of real business value from day one.
I am now in my sixth month at Grosvenor as a graduate surveyor working towards my APC. My first rotation is with Grosvenor Fund Management, and I will spend 12 months here before moving to a different team. Since joining Grosvenor, the support I have received from the company, my colleagues and fellow graduates towards my professional qualification has been tremendous, and the variety and value of my day-to-day tasks have been everything I've ever wanted - if not more.
In addition to my work in the Fund Management team, there are plenty of opportunities for me to attend training courses to improve my professional knowledge and transferable skills, and there are also a variety of sports and social events for me to get to know my fellow graduates, colleagues and other young professionals in the property industry.
I feel extremely privileged to have been awarded the Grosvenor Scholarship, and to have gained a position in the Grosvenor graduate scheme. So far, working in Grosvenor has been challenging yet extremely interesting and rewarding.
