3rd December 2014

The Barton Oxford LLP, a partnership between Oxford City Council and Grosvenor Developments Limited, has submitted a reserved matters application for the new neighbourhood at Barton Park. The application seeks approval for works needed to prepare the site for development.

Edward Skeates, development director at Grosvenor Developments Limited, said: “The submission of the reserved planning application is an important step in delivering much needed new housing for Oxford at Barton Park. Subject to approval early next year, we hope to start the site preparation works in the spring, with the first houses starting on site later in the year.”

Councillor Bob Price, leader of Oxford City Council, says: “Oxford City Council and its partners share a commitment to sustainable housing development. Our joint venture with one of the country’s most prestigious development companies is going to deliver a new garden suburb and much needed housing. This is one of the Council’s key priorities.”

In September 2013, Barton Park secured outline planning permission to deliver up to 885 new homes, alongside a new primary school, food store and community hub. The reserved matters application outlines plans for:

  • The main street that will connect the A40 and Barton Village Road,
  • Two civic squares, around which the food store and primary school will be built,
  • The utility, services and drainage systems that will support the new community,
  • A new 4 hectare linear park alongside Bayswater Brook.

The new linear park will connect with Play Barton and has been designed with the help of the local community, including schoolchildren and groups representing people who will use the park in Barton and Northway. This green space will include ponds with platforms to get close to the water, bridges, a boardwalk through existing trees on the site, and a jogging trail with fitness stations.

The local community will have an opportunity to ask questions about the application at public exhibitions this month. The exhibitions will be held on:

Venue: Barton Neighbourhood Centre, Underhill Circus, Headington, Oxford OX3 9LS
The Barton Oxford LLP will be briefing City Councillors. The 15 minute presentation will be followed by a question and answer session by City Councillors. There will also be an opportunity for residents to ask questions.
