Summer in the Square Returns to Mayfair

Three week summer festival in Grosvenor Square, London from 6 to 26 July 2015

30th April 2015

Grosvenor Britain & Ireland will transform Grosvenor Square, one of London’s finest public squares in the heart of Mayfair, into an open air cultural festival from 6th to the 26th July 2015. Open from 11am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, Grosvenor Square will host a wonderful programme of free events for the public to enjoy. This will be the fourth consecutive year of the hugely popular Summer in the Square, which has proven to be a fantastic event over the last three years, drawing thousands of people and providing a wide range of activities.

Summer in the Square event programme:

Sports Day (New)

For the first time, there will be a sports day during Summer in the Square on Friday 17th July. Businesses from the local area will be encouraged to enter teams to compete in races such as the traditional ‘Egg and Spoon and ‘Three-legged race’’.

Children’s Day

On Saturday 11th July, Summer in the Square will hold a dedicated Children’s Day, with games and entertainment designed for the younger audience as well as a story telling session.

Grosvenor Film Festival

Following the great success of last year’s Grosvenor Film Festival, the event returns for its second year to Grosvenor Square. A series of summer open-air screenings in the heart of Mayfair will offer the perfect backdrop for an alfresco evening with refreshments and gourmet picnics.

The cinema screenings will take place 9th - 11th and 16th - 18th July with films including The Breakfast Club, Stand By Me and Romeo and Juliet. Also included in this year’s line up is Whiplash, which will be supported by Jazz FM. Tickets for the Grosvenor Film Festival will go on sale in May via www.grosvenorlondon.com.

Activities

Grosvenor Square will become a hub for summer activities with an oversized games area including Jenga, chess and table tennis, a stage for music and theatre plus day workshops such as how to play the Ukelele and Steel Pans. There will also be a quiet zone called ‘The Nook’ for activities such as yoga and mindfulness and will also include a small library of books where people can relax in the tranquil environment.

Craig McWilliam, Executive Director London Estate at Grosvenor Britain & Ireland said: “The festival is a great opportunity for residents, workers and visitors to relax and unwind in the heart of Mayfair. Since launching the event in 2012, we have seen thousands of people return to Grosvenor Square to enjoy music, entertainment, gastronomy and sunshine, adding vitality to this part of the West End.”
