Grosvenor Britain & Ireland (‘Grosvenor') has today, with the signing of globally-recognised, luxury retailer Hill and Friends, confirmed its intention to reposition and grow South Molton Street, just off Oxford Street and a few steps from Bond Street, as one of London’s most successful retail streets.
Hill and Friends, the first of several independent, luxury brand signings set to be announced by Grosvenor this autumn, will kick off plans to make South Molton Street a ‘destination’ street for national and international visitors.
The start-up fashion brand founded by Emma Hill CBE and Georgia Fendley in 2015 celebrates its 2 year anniversary this month. Already a firm favourite with fashion insiders and a fixture in some of the world’s most prestigious department stores, Hill and Friends is building on its impressive growth in web and wholesale sales with its first dedicated retail space in Mayfair, at the heart of the West End.
Joanna Lea, Retail Director, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, said:
“The opening of Hill and Friends spells the start of a new and exciting era for South Molton Street – a long-standing London favourite. For this cutting-edge, globally-recognised brand to choose South Molton Street for its first physical store demonstrates Mayfair’s appeal and its ability to adapt and flourish in the face of change.
“We want our London estate, in the West End, to be more flexible, more open and more appealing, and our retail strategy will help to drive that vision. Demand for units in a reinvigorated South Molton Street is growing. And our expanding tenant mix will demonstrate the estate can do more for Londoners and visitors.”
Emma Hill CBE, Creative Director, Hill and Friends, said:
“I have always loved South Molton Street, growing up it was a fashion mecca, home to the bravest, coolest independent fashion brands. I love that the street is pedestrianized, in the heart of the West End and has a neighborhood feel. It’s anchored at one end by one of my all-time favourite stores, Browns. As soon as I saw the space it felt like home, the perfect place to share our gorgeous bags and crazy ideas with the amazing women who shop with us”
Grosvenor controls just under a third of South Molton Street with a total of 17 units. The company believes its retail ambitions will strengthen its recently-published 20 year vision for its London assets. It wants its estate in Mayfair and Belgravia to be more active, more open and more integrated – a more popular place.
