The international award, now into its third decade, signifies that Chavasse Park boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
Chavasse Park, the only city centre park to be awarded Green Flag status, includes five acres of beautifully landscaped gardens with winding paths and peaceful spots to take five from the bustle of the city centre.
Miles Dunnett from Grosvenor Europe said: “To win the Green Flag Award for the fourth consecutive year is a fantastic achievement. The green spaces at Liverpool ONE are a beloved part of the scheme, being nestled close to the historic Liverpool waterfront and the outstanding range of dining options on The Terrace. We’re keen for visitors to enjoy their whole visit to the city centre and so Chavasse Park provides an additional attraction which complements the very best retail and leisure experience available at Liverpool ONE.”
International Green Flag Award scheme manager, Paul Todd, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme. Each flag is a celebration of the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. The success of the scheme, especially in these challenging times, demonstrates just how much parks matter to people.”
Throughout the year, Chavasse Park is home to Liverpool ONE’S summer and Christmas celebrations and has also hosted a sandy beach, a sub-zero ice bar, and a sporting village complete with a running track and winners’ podiums.
This summer the park’s iconic Sugar House steps have been remodelled in the style of an amphitheatre with the addition of artificial grass, creating a new place for people to relax. And the park will also during the school summer holidays, inspired by Liverpool’s 2022 Commonwealth Bid.
This activity follows a range of enlivenment events that have taken place across Liverpool ONE this year; The Luminarium inflatable maze was in place for two weeks in June and Liverpool ONE welcomed back the award-winning ‘Tickle the Ivories’ installation, providing six public pianos across the scheme from July until September. Liverpool ONE also hosted a number of events as part of its partnership with The British Style Collective (BSC) during a two-day festival in early July.
