The first project in Hong Kong to achieve dual WELL and LEED Gold for new and existing interiors
Grosvenor is proud to announce that it has been awarded LEED® Gold for its office refurbishment of the Grosvenor Asia Headquarters in Central, Hong Kong.
Administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the LEED green building certification program is a globally recognised benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green buildings.
The award follows the announcement that Grosvenor’s Hong Kong office refurbishment received Gold Level Certification for the WELL Building Standard™, meaning the office is now dual LEED and WELL™ Certified at the Gold Level. This is a significant achievement as it marks the project as the first office refurbishment in Hong Kong to receive such recognition for new and existing interiors.
Speaking about the design, Ian Mair, Chief Operating Officer Asia Pacific, commented:“A key aim of the project was to put the wellbeing of Grosvenor employees at the heart of sustainable design. The awards cement our commitment to that, but also to ensuring that as an organisation, we are creating a healthier environment and reducing our operating costs while prioritising sustainable practices.”
Designing for LEED
To create a more sustainable environment, all building materials selected for the refurbishment were environmentally friendly with low emission VOC content. The design used an elaborate air quality monitoring and filtration system as well as high performance acoustic insulation.
A bespoke selection of lighting fixtures such as non-glare, dimmable and warm colour tones all contribute to creating a working environment that centred on comfort and wellbeing. Resulting energy savings stand at 30% compared with the same period for 2016/17.
Throughout the build, Grosvenor also employed a rigorous policy on construction waste management, resulting in a 76% diversion of waste from landfill and saw wastage recycled or reused as a result.
Silver A' Design Award
In addition to the dual WELL and LEED certification, the architects who led the design of the Hong Kong office, Bean Buro, have been awarded the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space Design Category by the International Design Academy for their work on the project. The Silver A' Design Award is a prestigious award given to the top 5 percentile designs that has carried out an exemplary level of perfection in design, from over 45,000+ submissions from around the world.
