Grosvenor Group announces the appointment of former U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdon Matthew Barzun as Non-Executive Director. Joining the Group Board with effect from 21 March 2019, he brings a wealth of international experience in politics, diplomacy and business.
Matthew was U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom (between 2013 and 2017) and to Sweden (between 2009 and 2011). In 2008 he joined Barack Obama’s National Finance Committee where he developed the Obama campaign’s grass-root fundraising and volunteering strategies which were to prove instrumental to electoral success. He later also served as National Finance Chair for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign.
Earlier in his career, Matthew helped shape the early development of the internet, joining technology news and reviews website CNET as its fourth employee in 1993. He served in a number of roles within the company, including Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer and member of the executive committee. Over more than a decade with the business he led the development of one of the first comparison shopping sites – Shopper.com, and co-led CNET’s online properties including CNET.Com and News.Com. He left in 2004 to advise and invest in start-up internet companies.
Matthew is Chairman of Tortoise Media, a London-based news organisation, and serves on the boards of many not-for-profit organisations with a focus on education; public policy and interfaith relations. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with an AB in History and Literature from Harvard College.
