Grosvenor’s Vestaron helps tackle tomato infestations in Europe

Grosvenor Food & AgTech portfolio company Vestaron has seen its novel bioinsecticide SPEAR® LEP authorised for farmer use by the Italian Ministry of Health to help tackle devastating infestations of tomato leafminer (Tuta absoluta) — a pest causing significant and costly yield losses in Europe.

The authorisation follows one by the Greek government granted in February of this year.

Made from peptides – naturally occurring proteins – the product delivers a selective and effective biological control of pests and unlike traditional synthetic products, it does not affect bees and pollinators, degrading into amino acids which are harmless to the environment, fish, and mammals, helping to reduce pollution.

Founded in 2005, Vestaron is leading a global revolution in crop protection by creating novel, effective, and sustainable solutions to meet the growing challenges of modern agriculture.
