Our North American Sustainable Partner Principles

Below outlines the principles and objectives where we believe working towards common goals will have the greatest social and environmental impact.

Our purpose is to deliver lasting commercial, social and environmental benefit, addressing today’s needs while taking responsibility for those of future generations. This approach to business is underpinned by principles that put mitigating climate change and the promotion of healthy, inclusive, and economically resilient businesses and communities at the heart of everything we do.

Collaboration with our partners, tenants and suppliers is a key part of our strategy to lower our carbon intensity and reduce the environmental impact of our activities in North America.

Our Sustainable Partner Principles document outlines the principles and objectives where we believe working towards common goals will have the greatest social and environmental impact. It sets out guidance for our partners in addressing these principles.

In addition, Grosvenor performs extensive due diligence on each potential partner, which serves the dual purpose of identifying partners that share a common goal of delivering lasting commercial, social and environmental benefit, while also providing the information necessary for Grosvenor to comply with applicable money laundering, terrorist financing, sanction breaches, bribery and corruption, tax evasion and modern slavery laws in the UK, the US and Canada. Moreover, we require, where feasible, that any partner agrees to comply with such laws in connection with the performance of its work for or with Grosvenor.

See below to learn about our Sustainable Partner Principles, supported by examples from our business. More details coming soon.

Net Zero Carbon primary

Net Zero Carbon

Part of our 2030 WGBC Net Zero Carbon Commitment includes considering operational emissions, embodied carbon, and climate resiliency.

One example of how we have built this into project planning is our Brentwood Block residential development project in Metro Vancouver, which will utilize the 98% clean, renewable energy grid at the site. We will also opt for 100% electric appliances and electric-source air conditioning.

Sustainable Buildings primary

Sustainable Buildings

Using responsible materials, monitoring waste management, and water consumption are just a few ways in which we can ensure that our buildings are sustainable.

As part of The Pacific project, our 224-unit residential high rise in Vancouver, BC, we delivered a Passive House certified arts and culture hub which uses up to 90% less energy than conventional buildings.

Sustainable Businesses & Communities primary

Sustainable Businesses & Communities

Providing upskilling training, utilizing diverse businesses, building local partnerships, and supporting charities are ways in which we can build relationships and develop initiatives that address important community issues.

Employees across our North American offices volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization providing affordable housing to those in need.

Health & Wellbeing primary

Health & Wellbeing

Considering the wellbeing of our tenants and employees and ensuring that working environments are respectful and inclusive forms part of our core values.

Adding to its Energy Star, LEED Gold and WiredScore certifications, our historic office and retail property, 1500 K Street in Washington, D.C., is also WELL Health-Safety Rated. Informed by the COVID-19 pandemic but with a broader vision to support the long-term health and wellness of occupants and visitors, this rating recognizes the efforts of owners and operators on critical health and safety issues.

Nature & Biodiversity primary

Nature & Biodiversity

Monitoring our biodiversity impact helps us identify ways in which we can implement nature-based solutions within our business.

Across our portfolio of assets in North America, we house 16 beehives comprising over 500,000 bees. The hives reconnect our visitors and residents to the subtle wonders of nature, further our biodiversity initiatives, and offer students, shoppers and residents education on the importance of honeybee populations and their direct impact on food production, economy and environmental sustainability.
