Tor Burrows has been appointed as Group Sustainability Director to lead Grosvenor’s global sustainability strategy across all its international property, food & agtech and rural estates businesses.
This includes overseeing the organisation’s recently announced global carbon commitment to reduce emissions in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
Tor will also continue as Executive Director of Sustainability in Grosvenor Property UK, overseeing the strategy and delivery of the business’ ambitious environmental and social sustainability goals.
In her expanded role, Tor will build on Grosvenor’s progress in advancing sustainability and on its mission to reduce carbon emissions by decarbonising property holdings; investing in businesses and technologies able to disrupt the food industry’s carbon intensive practices; and to preserve, restore and enhance rural environments.
Recent highlights in Grosvenor’s environmental sustainability journey include:
Achieving a 24% reduction in emissions across all scopes between 2020 and 2021 within Grosvenor’s UK property business, which is on course to reduce emissions by 90% by 2040
Completing over 600,000 sq ft of retrofits in Grosvenor’s historic London portfolio as part of a £90m commitment to make properties more energy efficient
Helping to drive a 20% increase, over the past year, in the number of UK SME’s with science-based targets through a free supplier mentoring programme
Investing in leading technologies able to disrupt carbon intensive practices in the food and agtech industry, ranging from plant-based packaging to protein alternatives and crop protection solutions
Restoring populations of salmon and sea trout in Scotland as part of a partnership with the Atlantic Salmon Trust
Planting over 500,000 trees in the UK over the past four years
To support the ongoing success of Grosvenor Property UK’s sustainability strategy, Ed Green has been promoted to Sustainability Director for Grosvenor’s UK property business and will be responsible for leading its social impact and sustainability team. Ed previously co-led the delivery of the Alternative Investment strategy within the sustainability team and led the project to re-design Grosvenor Square into a biodiverse urban garden.
Mark Preston, Executive Trustee and Chief Executive, Grosvenor commented: “We’ve committed to pursuing carbon reduction targets, aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5°C. Having set the strategy and established such a successful sustainability programme within our UK property business, Tor’s expertise will be invaluable in ensuring that we continue to turn our sustainability ambitions into action and make progress across every element of our organisation globally.”
