"I feel more confident living on my own. I'm proud of how far I've come."
– Bella
When Bella moved into her Grosvenor Hart Homes (GHH) home at 18, she carried the weight of a childhood marked by instability, trauma, and frequent placement breakdowns. Having spent years without a consistent, safe home, the transition to living independently felt both exciting and overwhelming. Managing a tenancy, budgeting, and navigating loneliness were new and sometimes daunting challenges. Her mental health ─ shaped by anxiety, depression, and periods of crisis ─ made this new chapter even harder to navigate.
From the beginning, GHH offered steady, compassionate support. The CYPF practitioner checked in almost daily, helping Bella build trust and feel safe asking for help. Together they worked through the practicalities of independent living: managing bills, setting routines, keeping her flat organised, and understanding her benefits. Alongside this, Bella received joined‑up emotional support from our Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioner, who helped her develop regulation strategies, safety plans, and a better understanding of her own triggers. This consistent, non‑judgemental approach created a safety net around her as she found her footing.
Over time, Bella began to flourish. She became more engaged in her community, attending coffee mornings, reconnecting with former foster carers, and making new friends. Her confidence grew as she learned to manage her finances independently ─ setting up a savings account, budgeting, and keeping rent payments on track. A major milestone came when she secured part‑time work as a Healthcare Assistant with the NHS. The role has given her purpose, structure, new skills, and a sense of pride she carries into every shift.
Today, Bella is building a life shaped by stability, choice, and growing independence. She continues to strengthen her routines, deepen supportive relationships, and move towards long‑term goals. With GHH’s support ─ steady, kind, and always person‑centred ─ Bella has been able to turn uncertainty into progress, and a once‑unpredictable future into something bright and achievable.
