"Thank you for everything you have done for me, I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for GHH.”
– Nora
When Nora and her teenage daughter came to Grosvenor Hart Homes (GHH), they were searching for more than a home – they needed safety and hope.
Twelve months into her journey as a GHH tenant, Nora’s mental health collapsed. She became withdrawn and almost unable to speak. Her daughter was terrified. When emergency lines failed, Nora was taken to hospital, far from home, feeling frightened and alone.
While in hospital, Nora expressed feeling unheard by statutory services and disclosed suicidal ideation. She had stopped taking her medication, believing it worsened her symptoms.
GHH stepped in immediately. Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner visited Nora in hospital, clearly explained to her that she needed an ECG, and reassured her. Following this visit, Nora consented to the treatment.
We also advocated for Nora in meetings, ensured her voice was heard, and supported her discharge planning. When she was sent home suddenly, our support staff stayed by her side, contacted crisis teams, and made sure she was safe.
Her trust in us was evident, as she consistently reached out to disclose risk and seek help ─ contrasting with her experience of statutory services, which she described as disinterested and ineffective. We also supported her daughter, helping her understand what was happening and encouraging independence.
Thanks to GHH, Nora avoided harm during critical moments, gained a social worker, and began her road to recovery.
