Crisp takes a slice of Grosvenor's Mayfair portfolio

Grosvenor has today announced that a partnership between award-winning Crisp Pizza and the team behind The Devonshire will be launching The Marlborough at 24 North Audley Street in Mayfair.

The partnership between two of London’s most successful food and drink operators will offer visitors a traditional pub on the ground floor, with standing room by the bar and fitted seating at the back, while the downstairs will be dedicated to Crisp Pizza, with restaurant-style seating for 52 alongside an outside terrace for al fresco dining.

Previously known as The Marlborough Head in honour of John Churchill, who was created Duke of Marlborough after his victory at the Battle of Blenheim, the site has been the home of public house since 1758.  The building set to become The Marlborough was designed by Thomas Verity, best known for the Pavillion at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Since becoming vacant in 2020, Grosvenor has worked to repair and enhance the building and its heritage features, including restoring nearly 2,000 sq. ft. of its terracotta façade and delivering three new apartments for rent on the upper floors.

Led by the teams at Crisp and The Devonshire, the pub itself has undergone a loving redesign, and will feature marmoleum flooring, dark, French polished mahogany joinery, anaglypta on the walls and ceilings, as well as The Devonshire’s signature system for Guinness.

In line with Grosvenor’s commitment to reducing the carbon impact of its portfolio and ensure the wellbeing of its occupiers, The Marlborough will be an all-electric building. Since 2019, Grosvenor has reduced gas usage by 40%, replacing over 50 gas boilers with fossil free alternatives.

Set to become one of the London’s most anticipated openings, The Marlborough will anchor the wider F&B offer Grosvenor has actively curated on North Audley Street.

Positioned strategically between Oxford Street and Grosvenor Square, North Audley Street is set to benefit from significant local improvements, with Grosvenor investing to create al fresco dining spaces, Oxford Street set to be pedestrianised by the Mayor of London and Grosvenor Square currently undergoing a radical transformation into a world class urban green space.

Amelia Bright, Executive Director, London Estate, Grosvenor said:

“We couldn’t be more excited to be working alongside Carl and the team at The Devonshire. From the outset, it was clear what a special addition this would be to Mayfair and the wider West End. Securing this unique partnership epitomises how our active asset management continuously enhances our neighbourhoods, whilst simultaneously preserving their unique architectural heritage.”

Carl McCluskey, Founder of Crisp Pizza said:

“We are incredibly grateful to Grosvenor for believing in us and trusting us with this opportunity to take on such a historic site. It’s exactly the kind of location we dreamed of for a permanent home for Crisp and we can’t wait to be part of the community"

Oisín Rogers, The Devonshire, said:

“I am a huge fan of Carl, firstly as a great publican and secondly as the creator of London’s most famous pizza. I was delighted to have the opportunity to help a tiny bit in the background with what I believe is going to be London’s biggest pub opening this year.”

The Marlborough will open in October 2025.
